6 Earth Day Felt Crafts

by Debra Quartermain

We are sharing some of our very favorite Earth Day Crafts, these projects celebrate the theme of this year Save our Species. “All living things have an intrinsic value, and each plays a unique role in the complex web of life. We must work together to protect endangered and threatened species: bees, coral reefs, elephants, giraffes, insects, whales and more. You can find out more information and how you and your family can get involved here. Earth Day April 22, 2019. https://www.earthday.org/campaigns/endangered-species/earthday2019/

The Design Team has been creating family friendly projects in keeping with this year’s theme.

Erin Reed creates videos for our You Tube channel and her Lion tote bag is so fast and easy! Here is the link: https://youtu.be/y4hrJbg5d74

Along with many animal species, plant species are endangered too and often these are plants that animals are dependent on. Rina Gonzales designed this Emoji inspired plant hoop. Full tutorial here. https://www.kuninfelt.com/2019/04/16/diy-felt-plant-hoop/

Chad Boender aka Male Kindergarten Teacher shares wonderful inspiring projects with his class and this giraffe puppet is super cute! The die was designed by our own DT member artist Laura Kelly for Sizzix. https://www.kuninfelt.com/2019/04/11/diy-giraffe-puppet/

As a Scout Leader Laura Kelly spends time crafting on many worthwhile projects with her troop. These SWAP flower seed packets are both pretty and perfect to share as an Earth Day gift. There is a free printable included. https://www.kuninfelt.com/2019/04/13/earth-day-flower-seed-s-w-a-p-s/

And of course, the bees, the world needs the bees! This embroidered hoop design by Katie Berry has an important message for both the bees and us. https://www.kuninfelt.com/2019/04/09/bee-kind-hoop-art/

This beautiful framed art of a sea turtle was designed by Beth Watson, endangered as well. This is a special piece to make. https://www.kuninfelt.com/2019/04/04/diy-felt-sea-turtle-art-print/

All of these projects need very few supplies plus the basic felt, scissors and glue. A great activity for a family crafty afternoon or evening.

At Kunin we are committed to the environment. Did you know that Kunin’s use of recycled plastic bottles in the manufacturing of its PET fiber/felt is reducing waste and contributing to environmental sustainability?  We recycled over 350,000,000 bottles a year by turning them into Eco-fi fiber.

So, what Eco-fi exactly? “It is a high-quality polyester fiber made from 100% certified recycled plastic PET bottles. It can go into any textile product such as clothing, blankets, carpets, wall coverings, auto interiors, home furnishings, and craft felt. Eco-fi can also be blended with other fibers, such as cotton or wool, for enhanced qualities.

You can now find an expanded color line of Kunin® ClassicfeltKunin® Premiumfelt and Corduroy non-wovens fabrics in cut by the yard at your local Walmart; please inquire as to what is available in your area.
