Creating fabulous masterpieces with felt also creates fantastic holiday decor and gifts. I save my little pieces after each project and was really thrilled to be able to use a lot of the red and green “scraps” in this one. These patchwork pillows are great for the holidays to use as an added touch of festivity to decor as well as to give as handmade gifts.

There are a few supplies you will need to create a pillow.

  • 9” x 12” craft cuts Kunin Classicfelt in Holiday Colors
  • Ellison/Sizzix Die-Cut Machine and Lemonade Uppercase Alphabet Die
  • Sewing Machine
  • Stuffing (Fairfield World Poly-fil)
  • Needle and Thread

Okay, let’s do it. The first step is to cut create your patchwork piece to use for the front of the pillow. You can make it whatever size suits your fancy. Sew pieces of felt and fabric into strips. Then sew those strips together into a larger piece.

Cut out your word using red felt and the Lemonade Alphabet.

Using a zig-zag stitch, sew the letters to spell the work onto a solid piece of fabric. I used denim from an old pair of jeans. Using the zig-zag stitch, add that entire piece of fabric with the word onto your patchwork front.

Cut a fabric back piece for your pillow in the same size as the front. You can decorate it too with die-cut shapes or even another word. Sew the two pieces together with the fronts facing each other, leaving a small opening. Flip the pillow and stuff it then hand stitch it closed with your needle and thread.
