DIY Felt Envelope Tablet Holder

Sew up a bright and colorful Felt Envelope Tablet Holder with Kunin® Brand Felt!  Quick and easy to make in 30 minutes with just a few simple supplies.  Create a one-of-a-kind pouch for each one of your family’s devices and showcase their personality!

Time:  30 Minutes

Skill Level:  Beginner

YOU WILL NEED:

  • Kunin® Premium™ Felt Yardage 72” wide – One Half Yard in Smoke
  • VELCRO Heavy-Duty Self-Adhesive Hook and Loop Tape – Black
  • Buttons – Rainbow Colors
  • Straight Pins
  • Sewing Machine with Coordinating Thread
  • Scissors
  • Scallop Pinking Shears – for fabric
  • Embroidery Floss – Black
  • Embroidery Needle
  • Metal Ruler or Yardstick
  • Triangle Ruler
  • Chalk Pencil – White

STEP ONE

Gather all supplies.  Lay out one half yard of Smoke Kunin® Premium™ Felt on your work surface.  Use the 90-degree angle of a triangle ruler to ensure that your felt is totally square.

For a standard tablet, measure a rectangle of that is 12” wide and 22” long using a white chalk pencil on the dark grey Smoke Kunin® Premium™ Felt.  Make additional marks along the long length at 9”, 18” and 19” with the chalk pencil.

STEP TWO

To create the triangular envelope shape, mark a dot at the 6” center point of the 12” width, and then connect the dots from the 19” mark to the center using a ruler and chalk pencil.

For a bit of whimsy, cut out the Smoke Kunin® Premium™ Felt Envelope Tablet Holder with scallop pinking shears.  You can also use straight scissors for a more modern look.

STEP THREE

Fold the straight 12” wide edge up to the 18” chalk mark and secure both edges with straight pins.

Sew both pinned edges on a sewing machine fitted with coordinating thread at a 5/8” seam allowance.  Remember to back stitch at the beginning and end to secure the envelope.  The black thread virtually disappears on the Smoke Kunin® Premium™ Felt.  Hand stitching and/or fabric glue will work for this project if you do not have a sewing machine.

STEP FOUR

Measure and cut a 1 ½” length of VELCRO Hook and Loop Tape.  Cut apart the hook side from the loop side, secure together, and remove the liner paper from one side to expose the adhesive.

Press firmly onto the top center of the envelope flap to secure, remove the liner paper from the second side and fold the envelope flap closed.

Secure, by pressing firmly and then carefully release the hook from the loop to open the envelope.

STEP FIVE

Select a rainbow assortment of buttons to decorate the flap of the DIY felt envelope tablet holder.  Dry fit the buttons, until you are pleased with the composition.

Thread black embroidery floss onto embroidery needle.  Sew rainbow buttons onto the envelope flap of the tablet holder.
