Easy Travel Embroidery Hoops

When I travel, I always like to experiment and try new creative projects that I never seem to have time to do when I am home.  Kunin Brand Felt Craft Cuts are perfect for travel crafts because they come in a variety of colors, cut easily, and will not fray like traditional fabrics.   My Easy Travel Embroidery Hoops with Kunin Felt are bright and colorful projects that can be completed on the road!

I recently had the opportunity to travel outside Austin, Texas with my crafty besties Laura Kelly Designs and Ann Butler Designs to host our second Craft-A-Thon, the Travel Edition.  We created these fun embroidery hoop projects with our favorite colors of Kunin Brand Felt under the open-air pavilion of the Gruene Mansion Inn.  It was a blast.  Check out the FB Live video HERE   ( https://fb.watch/6bsBwXCs6j/ )

STEP ONE

To begin the Easy Travel Embroidery Hoops, gather all supplies.  Download and print the EASY TRAVEL EMBROIDERY HOOP PATTERNS and then cut out with scissors.

STEP TWO

Trace the Butterfly patterns onto your favorite colors of Kunin® Classic™ Felt with a marker and cut out inside the traced lines with scissors.  I like delicate pastel colors for the Butterfly hoop.  Repeat with the Cactus patterns and earthy colors of Kunin® Classic™ Felt.

STEP THREE

Unscrew the metal bracket at the top of the embroidery hoop and remove the center ring from the outer ring.  Lay center hoop down on your work surface, place Kunin® Classic™ Felt on top, and then fit outer hoop over the felt making a sandwich.  Tighten the metal screw and pull the Felt gently from the back to get a snug fit.  Flip over and trim the Kunin® Classic™ Felt as close as you can to the wooden hoop.

STEP FOUR

Since I will be traveling with this hoop, I want to finish the edges before I leave.  Attach ball fringe trim to the outside edge of the wooden embroidery hoop with E6000 Fabri-Fuse Fabric Glue.  Let dry.  I love to use ball fringe trim on an embroidery hoop because it is playful.

STEP FIVE

While traveling, dry fit and layer the Butterfly patterns on the embroidery hoop.  Thread and embroidery needle with six strands of light grey floss, knot the end, and then straight stitch the large butterfly wings onto the hoop.  Layer on the small butterfly wings then attach with French knots and individual chain stitches.  Add the butterfly body with horizontal straight stitches the width of the felt.

STEP SIX

Perfect to complete in the car.  Dry fit and layer the Cactus patterns on the embroidery hoop.  Thread and embroidery needle with six strands of black floss, knot the end, and then straight stitch the clay pot onto the hoop, using a variety of designs.  Accent with French knots.  Layer on the cactus and attach with lime green seed stitches to resemble the cactus needles.  Add the cactus flowers with one large orange French knot.

STEP SEVEN

Trace the hoop back pattern onto a coordinating color of Kunin® Classic™ Felt and cut out with pinking shears or a decorative touch.  Since I will be traveling with this hoop, I did this step before I left.  Flip hoop over and attach the back piece with E6000 Fabri-Fuse Fabric Glue and set aside to dry.  I like to do this in the evening, once I’m settled at the hotel, and then let the glue dry overnight.

I hope you will use my Easy Travel Embroidery Hoops project as a jumping off point to showcase your Kunin Creativity and create some art on the go.  These little hoops would make the perfect hidden art project to leave in the places you are traveling to for a stranger to find.  Tie on a tag with your social media information and make new friends!  Check out the Kunin Felt Boho Rainbow Embroidery Hoop project on my website.
