- MASON JAR UNCLE SAM PATTERNS
HOW TO MAKE IT:
STEP ONE
Gather all supplies. Separate the red and blue candies from rest of the colors. I purchased a bag of red, white and blue candies, so this was an easier process (and I got to snack on the leftovers!).
STEP TWO
Place cardboard tube in the center of the mason jar and fill with crumpled paper towels. While holding onto the paper tube, carefully pour candies into jar. Gently shake jar to allow the candies to settle. Place the candies at the neck of the jar with your fingers and then cover the top of the tube. Set aside.
STEP THREE
Download, print and cut out the templates from the pattern sheet HERE. With permanent marker, trace face onto Cream Felt, mustache onto Red Felt, and then cut out with scissors. TIP: Cut on the inside of the traced lines for a cleaned finished project.
Using glue gun and glue sticks, attach face, mustache, wiggle eyes and pom pom nose referring to photo for placement.
STEP FOUR
Measure and cut a rectangle of Red Felt to fit around empty ribbon spool (mine is 2.5” by 10.5”). Measure and cut white ribbon stripes (mine are 2.5”) and then glue to Red Felt rectangle. Glue red and white striped rectangle to ribbon spool to create the top of the hat. TIP: If you don’t have a ribbon spool think about recycling an empty can or make your own tube with recycled cardboard and masking tape.
Trace a circle onto recycled cardboard that is one inch larger than the ribbon spool (my circle is 4”) and then trace the lid of the mason jar in the center of the first circle. Cut out with scissors and a craft knife to create the hat brim. Trace and cut a hat brim from Neon Blue Felt and the glue to cardboard.
Trace ribbon spool hat onto Neon Blue Felt and cut out with scissors to create the top of the hat. Assemble the hat with glue gun.
STEP FIVE
Insert silver tinsel chenille stem into the holes in four star-shaped buttons, trim the ends and fold flat to back of buttons.
Measure and cut silver glitter paper to create a hat band (mine is 0.5” by 10.5”). Attach hat band to hat, three stars to hat top and one star as an accent. Screw lid onto jar and place hat over lid. To finish, glue Uncle Sam’s face to the front of the mason jar.
I hope you will use my Mason Jar Uncle Sam craft as a jumping off point to showcase your Kunin Creativity and celebrate our nation’s Birthday this Fourth of July! Adding a gift card or special message inside the jar creates a fun surprise for the recipient to let them know you are thinking of them.
