Summer Sea Life Wreath

By Katie Berry

Summer is in full swing! Whether you are at the shore or not, everyone one loves cute sea life! I especially love Laura Kelly’s Sea Life dies from Ellison. They look adorable on this cute Summer Sea Life Wreath!

Materials used:

  • 12” x 18” craft cut of Kunin Premiumfelt™ (2) Lagoon, (1) Violet Sky, (1) Smoke, (1) Olive
  • 9” x 12” craft cut of Kunin Classicfelt™ (1) Red, (1) Minty, (1) Lemon Frost, (1) Peach Chiffon, (1) White
  • FloraCraft Wreath Foam
  • Hot Glue Gun and Glue Sticks
  • Cutting Mat, Rotary Cutter and Cutting Ruler
  • Ellison/Sizzix Die Cutting Machine and Cutting Pads
  • Laura Kelly’s Sea Life Dies (Shells, Turtle, Shark, Octopus) from Ellison
  • Laura Kelly’s Pet Shop (fish and crab) Dies from Ellison
  • Laura Kelly’s Lemonade Capital Alphabet Die from Ellison
  • Tulip Fabric Paint
  • Wiggly Eyes
  • Felt Glue
  • Jute Rope

Putting it together:

First, I cut out all of the sea life using the die cutting machine, cutting pads and dies. I cut two of each animal and then glued them together to make them a little sturdier. I also cut pieces from the turtle to give it a different color head and legs and I cut the sharks teeth out of white felt.

Using the cutting mat, ruler and rotary cutter, I cut the Lagoon felt into 1”x24” inch strips. Once the strips were cut, I wrapped each piece around the foam wreath, gluing it down with my hot glue gun until the foam was completely covered.

Once I was done wrapping the wreath with the Lagoon felt, I laid out the sea life onto the wreath to make sure I knew where I wanted them to go. I cut out some sea grass from the Olive felt and placed it at the bottom of the wreath. Once everything was in place, I glued it all down with hot glue.

I cut a small banner using the Lemon Frost felt. I made them 2 inches wide. Then I cut the word SUMMER using the Laura Kelly Lemonade Capital Alphabet Dies from the Violet Sky felt. I used the felt glue to glue the letters to the banner. Using a piece of jute rope, I glued the banner to the rope.

Once my banner was done, I figured out where I wanted it placed on my wreath and then glued it down on the backside of the wreath.

Then, I used Tulip fabric paint and wiggly eyes to give each animal a little bit of detail.

I love how this wreath turned out! It looks perfect hanging on my front door! My kids have already gone back to school (year round) and their summer is over, but we can still celebrate using this awesome Summer Sea Life Wreath!!

I hope that everyone is having a Happy Summer!
