These pincushions are as cute as can be! The best part is they are created from soda caps and your scrap felt. Not a sewer? They are also the perfect size for your favorite little girl’s doll!
Supplies:
- Soda cap from a plastic soda bottle. Washed and dried.
- 9” x 12” craftcuts of Eco-fi Classicfelt in white, brown and whatever other colors you want!
- Stuffing
- Basic sewing & embroidery supplies
- Ribbon
- Craft glue
Instructions for donut or cupcake pincushions:
- Wrap and glue a piece of ribbon around the base of the bottle cap.
- Cut a piece of felt into a 3 inch circle.
- Sew a running stitch around the edge of the circle.
- Pull the ends of the thread to gather the felt into a small ball shape, push some stuffing into the middle of the ball, and then pull the thread tight and knot.
- Glue the ball, with the opening facing down, into the bottle cap.
- For the cupcake, snip a small amount of felt to create frosting (see photo) and whip stitch it onto the top of the cupcake. Make a French knot with embroidery thread in the top to serve as the cherry.
- For the donut, cut a donut shape from a small piece of felt and whip stitch it onto the top of the felt ball. Embroider seed stitches onto the top of the donut to represent sprinkles.
Instructions for tea cup pincushion:
- Using the bottle cap as a guide, cut a strip of felt to cover the outside of the cap. Glue it onto the cap. *If you want to embroider a design (like a small flower) onto the cup base, now is the time to do that!
- Trace the bottle cap onto another piece of felt and cut out a circle of felt.
- Fill the bottle cap with stuffing, lay the circle of felt over the top of the cap and whip stitch the circle to the cup base.
- Cut a very small, thin strip of felt to serve as the cup handle and stitch it onto the side of the cup. If you embroidered a design on the cup, make sure the handle is placed correctly in proportion to the design.
These are so sweet Laura! Thank you for sharing!
Those are adorable!!! I’ve been looking for one that was smaller than the normal ones you find in the store…now I can just make my own. Love it!! Pinning this!
