Valentine’s Day is one of my students’ favorite holidays, but this crafty lit-based project can be done year-round! You and a special someone can make a Kiss Box for each other, and when you’re apart just keep your kiss box close so you can send kisses back and forth. Let’s get crafting!
Skill Level: Beginner
Time: 1 hour
You Will Need:
· 9″ x 12” craft cuts Kunin Classicfelt™ in White, Red, and Pink
· The Kissing Box by Bonnie Verburg
· Valentine Cupcake Boxes
· Valentine Favor Boxes with Rope Handles
· Sizzix Bigz Die – Hearts (Item #656782)
· Ellison SuperStar Machine
Here’s How to Make it:
Step 1:
Using your Ellison Super Star Machine and Sizzix Bigz Die – Hearts (Item #656782), cut multiple hearts from 9” x 12” craft cuts of Kunin® Classic Felt™ in Red, White, and Pink.
Step 2:
The story, The Kissing Box by Bonnie Verburg, helps initiate conversations about feelings, and in this case, the feeling of “missing.” And, it provides wonderful ways to send each other love, or in the book “kisses,” when being a part from one another. In the story, Mama Bear and Little Bear create “kiss boxes” as a way to send each other kisses when they were a part from each other. I love reading this book to my students on Valentine’s Day, and I love for them to create something to bring home to their parents on Valentine’s Day, too!
Step 3:
I purchased these fun and colorful Valentine Cupcake Boxes and Valentine Favor Boxes with Rope Handles from Oriental Trading Company. They are perfect for creating your own “kiss box” and storing all your felt hearts.
Step 4:
After cutting out your hearts, place them in your Valentine’s Day “kiss box”. These boxes can be used as a way for your students and parents to send each other love when they need it.
If you are in a pinch for what to create this week for Valentine’s Day, this fun and easy craft is the perfect solution.
You can now find an expanded color line of Kunin® Classicfelt; Kunin® Premiumfelt and Corduroy non-wovens fabrics in cut by the yard at your local Walmart; please inquire as to what is available in your area.
Happy Crafting,
Chad Boender
