Easy Sew Felt Autumn Fairy

Autumn fairies are filled with gratitude, harvest dreams and magic.  Making one is easy as can be with just a few materials and supplies.  This easy sew felt autumn fairy is great for beginning sewers.  It could also be made with hands stitching in not too much extra time using a machine.  The colors could be changed to create a fairy for pretty much any season, holiday or occasion. Autumn is special because it is the time to celebrate the hard work that happened through the summer, the work that makes the harvests grow.  For some this is literal, for others it is spiritual.  Either way, this easy sew felt autumn fairy makes adorable décor.

Skill Level: Medium
Time: 1 hour

YOU WILL NEED:

  • 12″ x 18″ craft cuts Kunin PremiumFelt (Autumn Colors)
  • Scissors
  • Brown Embroidery Floss
  • Sewing Machine or needle and thread
  • Polyfil Stuffing
  • Straight Pins
  • Ribbon to Embellish If Desired

Step One:

Cut four pieces of fabric (two for each leg) 3 inches by 9 inches long.  Sew them outside facing in, flip and stuff, leaving an inch at the top unstuffed.

Step Two:

Stuff the body with Polyfil leaving the top two inches unstuffed.  Gather the top and stitch it closed to finish the body.

Step Three:

Next it is time to make a dress for your easy sew felt autumn fairy. Using a 16 inch by 8 inch piece of felt, cut out a skirt using a wavy pattern.

Stitch across the top of the dress.  Wrap it around the top of the body and pull the thread to gather the dress. Stitch it gathered to the top of the body

Step Four:

To make a fairy hat, fold a piece of 12 inches by 9 inches felt in half and cut a triangle against the fold.  Cut the bottom to create a rounded bottom.  Sew along the non-folded side and flip.

Step Five:

Much like the body, take two pieces of felt that measure 4 inches by 6 inches and sew together on three sides, leaving a short side open.  Flip and stuff with PolyFil leaving 2 inches unstuffed.  Fold the opening up, stitch it closed and onto the body of the fairy.

Step Six:

Put the hat on the fairy to complete.  If desired; add felt embellishments like an acorn, a leaf or a pumpkin to the hat.
