Girl Scout Winter Food Gift Bags

Winter is a great time to create gifts of giving. With the cold weather in many places comes higher traffic to the food banks and kitchens. Girl Scouts are always looking for ways to be in service to the community. This little project is a great way to get kids involved in creating with the purpose of giving. The felt bags complete with a tied garland create a gift of food as well as a little something special for someone in need to use for a decoration.

To make the hats, use the new and amazing Kunin Corduroy Felt and the Snow Hat die from Ellison/Sizzix. Each bag requires three 9” by 12” craft cuts in a variety of colors. With the corduroy pattern facing one way for the hat and the other way for the pom-pom ball and trim, a fabulous contrast is created.

To create the bag, sew a hat to a full piece of 9” by 12” felt then sew that piece back to back to another craft cut to create a large pocket opening.

For the garland, sew three completed hats to a string of ribbon.

The bag will fit a couple of cans of food or a collection of teas and hot chocolates.

Use the garland to tie the bag closed.

Kids could add notes to the bags or little treats too.

You can now find an expanded color line of Kunin® ClassicfeltKunin® Premiumfelt and ShaggiChic non-wovens fabrics in cut by the yard at your local Walmart; please inquire as to what is available in your area.

Cheers to Creating to Make a Difference!
