Faux Stitched Scandinavian Holiday Ornaments

This week in the Kunin Classroom Design Team member Beth Watson shares a technique to create stitched holiday ornaments that require no stitching at all!

I love the clean lines and bold colors used in Scandinavian design. I am especially fond of the iconic shapes and embroidered designs used in their Holiday Decorations, but I am NOT and embroidered, so I created these Faux Stitched Scandinavian Holiday Ornaments to decorate my tree (and give as gifts!) this year!

Here’s What You Will Need:

Here’s How To Make It:

Download and print Ornament Patterns HERE. Cut out, trace on to chipboard, then cut out again.

Trace and cut out one of each ornament on Eco-fi® Classicfelt™ White and/or on Eco-fi® Classicfelt™ Red. Repeat as desired for the number of ornaments you would like to create.

TIP: When using a maker to trace on to felt, remember to cut inside the lines so you end up with a clean finished product.

Cut a 12” length of ribbon for each ornament. Knot ends together and attach to back of each ornament with Beacon Felt Glue, let dry. I chose to have my ribbon match my faux stitching, but you can combine colors as you wish.

Using ornament photos as a guide, begin drawing your faux stitching on your ornaments with Tulip® Dimensional Fabric Paint Slick White and Slick Red. Outline your pattern, then fill in with short lines that resemble embroidery stitches. Let dry completely. You can also search the web for Scandinavian inspired designs and patterns.

TIP: When using paint writers, keep a paper towel handy to start your colors on, this way you will not have any burps or bubbles on your project. If you do, use a toothpick to remove any unwanted paint.
