It’s almost that time…that back to school time! Teachers are already getting ready. They spend so much time planning for the new school year. From organizing materials to creating new plans; dedicated teachers are always looking for new ways to make each year better than the last. I created this special “floor spot” for the classroom that can be used to acknowledge a student and provide a fabulous spot for them to sit during classroom gatherings.
There are so many ways this could be used.
- It would be perfect for “Student of the Week”.
- It would work fabulously to feature a birthday kiddo.
- It would be a perfect seat for the day a student shared a story.
You will need:
- 9″ x 12″ craft cuts Kunin Classicfelt, 14, 7 different colors
- 1 yard Kunin EcofiPlus Premiumfelt, Black
- Scissors, ruler, sewing machine and thread or fabric glue
To make it, I cut strips of felt approximately 1 ½ inches wide and 12 inches long in bright colors. Cut yard piece of felt into two pieces 18″ x 24″.
Insert colored strips folded between the two layers of black felt. Then I sewed them around the four edges of the two large pieces of black felt. I sewed the two pieces together to create the “Spot”.
A great thing about this special floor seat is that it is washable. This can be used indoors or outdoors.
With the extra strips, I whipped up a bag to carry it around. This would create a way for kiddos to take it home on the weekends. It would be great to add a journal to the bag and have the kids each take it home once and share about a special place they like in their room. They could sit on the “spot” while they write or draw in the journal. After the weekend, they could share with the class.
You can now find an expanded color line of Kunin Eco-fi Classicfelt; Eco-fiPlus™ Premiumfelt and ShaggiChic non-wovens fabrics in cut by the yard at your local Walmart; please inquire as to what is available in your area.
If you have other ideas of ways to use the Special “Floor Spot”, please share. The more ideas we spread, the better our classrooms will be.
Cheers,
Laura
