Kunin Felt Stuffie Bed

Stuffie Bed Main P1 Label
Stuffies, kids just love them and many have collections of the cute stuffed animals. Our grandlittle Nate enjoys playing with his every day. His birthday was coming up and I wanted to make him something he would play with. The last time he showed me his collection he was making beds out of boxes and Tshirts. I decided to design a bed for his stuffies and to make it extra special personalize it with his name.

Along with the bed we added a fox stuffie.

This Stuffie bed could also be used for a small dog with extra filling added to the bottom to make it more comfortable. This is an easy project with one circular stitch line. Let’s make this!

Stuffie Bed Pieces P2

You will need:

  • ½ yard Kunin Premium Eco-fiPlus™: Royal Blue, Cashmere Tan
  • 12” x 18” craft cut Kunin Premium Eco-fiPlus™: Red
  • 2” Red button
  • Red embroidery floss
  • Beacon Fabri-tac Adhesive
  • Laura Kelly Heart and Alphabet Dies for Sizzix.com
  • Sizzix Big Shot, scissors, 18” circle template, white pencil, ruler, sewing machine and matching thread, Clover clips.

Cut two 18” circles from the Cashmere Tan felt. Cut two strips from the Royal Blue, one 6” wide and one 8” wide by 45”.
Stuffie Bed Clips P3
Measure around the circle edge for exact length of blue strips allow for an overlap of approximately 3”. Cut excess off both blue strips.
With 6” blue strip centered in middle of 8” strip fold in half lengthwise. Align both circles together and begin clipping blue strip along edge of circle. Continue completely around circle overlapping ends.
Stuffie Bed Seam Overlap P4
Sew around edge with a 5/8” seam removing clips. Trim threads and edge. The bed is not turned right side out, the felt does not fray and makes a nice clean edge.
Sizzix Die Used P5
Cut the red felt piece in half lengthwise. It will be the exact width needed for the Sizzix machine.
Sizzix Sandwich P6
Die cut the letters with the red felt. The Premium is our thickest felt so advancing the plates slightly beyond the die will make it easier to cut. Repeat until letters are completed. Use scraps of the cashmere to finish cutting all letters. TIP Cut pieces of felt the size of the section of letters needed to die cut instead of cutting all of the letters.

Repeat for second red felt piece and use scrap pieces of the tan to cut all the letters needed.
Button Front P7

8. Sew button through layers of front overlap. Adhere child’s name to front and adhere stuffies letters to inside of bed.
Stuffie Bed Heart P8

With red embroidery floss stitch heart to center of bed.

Stuffie Bed Final P9
The Stuffie bed was a big hit at the birthday party and soon was home filled with several little friends. It will be enjoyed for hours and the durability of the felt will ensure the bed will be around for a very long time.
