Queen of Hearts

The day before Halloween I was busy making more costumes for more family. My daughter with two little ones wanted a family themed look as they would be all trick or treating together. She grew up with parents who liked to dress up so naturally the tradition continues!

Introducing Alice, the Queen of Hearts, a Knight Card and a wee White Rabbit! My daughter has also wonderful makeup skills so her stunning makeup only enhanced the costume!

The Queen of Hearts costume is two pieces, two rectangles basically, one for an apron and one for a cape. I used the heavier Eco-fi Plus ™Premiumfelt and the results were stunning! The Knight Card is a rectangle folded in half with a hole cut out for head. I used Eco-fi®Glitterfelt as it is stiffer and the sparkle was effective at night.

Last week I shared how to make the basic animal cape and this cape I made for my daughter was similar but even easier. I just added a wide white strip of glitter felt to the red. Sewed a large basting stitch by hand to join them together and pulled the threads to gather the cape. The apron was gathered along the top and glued to ribbon waistband. For the white underskirt I just cut up the center of the red, trimmed away some on either side and glued the white underneath. The die cut hearts by Laura Kelly for Sizzix/Ellison add the final finishing touch!

The adorable White Rabbit has Eco-fi®ShaggiChic white ears sewn to a sleeper. It already had little bear ears so it was easy to insert them inside the bunny ears and sew through to hold bunny ears in place. The clock was simply a circle. The slightly quirky numbers were perfect and are a new die by Laura Kelly (www.meandmyinklings.com) for Sizzix/Ellison (www.sizzix.com). I used Eco-fi®Prestofelt™ so they could simply peel and stick. A tip when die cutting words, numbers make sure to place Eco-fi®Prestofelt™ paper side up or your words or numbers will be backwards.

You can now find an expanded color line of Kunin Eco-fi Classicfelt; Eco-fiPlus™ Premiumfelt and ShaggiChic non-wovens fabrics in cut by the yard at your local Walmart; please inquire as to what is available in your area.

All the family, children and grandlittles are already talking ideas for next year’s costumes! My daughter remarked that making things for those you love, is making memories. Her favorite Halloween this year!
