Living in a 175 year old house with a fireplace and mantel in almost every room makes for an abundance of holiday decorating. Halloween is coming up and of course that means “trick or treating” too! I had spray painted a small tree black and was brainstorming ideas to decorate the tree with. Aha, a classic Halloween treat, candy corn, would be so cute on the tree. Some felt, ribbon scraps and glue makes for very yummy looking candy corn.
You will need:
- Kunin CraftCuts 9″ x 12″ PrestoFelt™, 1 Yellow, 1 White
- Kunin CraftCuts 9″ x 12″ ClassicFelt™, 1 Orange, 1 White
- Ribbon scraps, black
- Aleene’s QuickDry FabricFusion
- Scissors, marker, ruler
- On paper side of the yellow piece draw a vertical line dividing the piece at 5” and 4”. Draw two horizontal lines at the 4” marks. Measure the center of each section and draw lines as shown to create triangles. Cut apart the nine triangles.
- Cut three 1” by 12” strips of orange, glue a strip of orange along the bottom of each triangle. Trim to fit.
- Cut a 2” wide strip of white felt. Peel off backing. Adhere the top of the triangles to the white felt as shown. Cut apart.
- Glue ribbon scraps along the orange and white sections.
- Peel backing off each triangle and stick to white felt for backing. Cut apart and trim.
Optional: I antiqued my candy corn with a small brown ink pad rubbed along edges.
The candy corn could also be strung as a banner. Insert ribbon between front and backing piece. They would also make a cute gift to give out with a ribbon loop to hang them by.
